Streak Plate Method
Streak literally means “a long, thin line”: and the streak plate method is a microbiological culture technique where a sample is spread in a petri dish in the form of a long, thin line over the surface of solid media.
What is Streak Plate Method?
The streak plate method is a microbiological laboratory technique of isolating pure cultures, and/or getting well-isolated colonies of bacteria from a mixed population. It is mostly used to get pure cultures of bacteria; however, yeasts can also be isolated by this method. It is one of the most commonly used aseptic techniques in microbiology to isolate and propagate bacteria. It is a mechanical isolation technique used in microbiology, commonly known as the “streaking method”.
Gram Staining method and acid fast bacilli
These acids are also very important in the body’s ability to recognize foreign bacteria. Gram-positive cell walls stain blue/purple with the Gram stain. Gram-negative cell walls are more complex. They have a thin peptidoglycan layer and an outer membrane beyond the plasma membrane.
GLUCOSE TEST
A glucose test measures the amount of glucose in your blood. Glucose is a type of sugar that is the body’s main source of energy. There are several types of glucose tests, including:
- Blood glucose test: A simple test that measures the amount of glucose in your blood.
- Glucose tolerance test: A test that measures your blood sugar before and after you drink a liquid containing glucose.
- Capillary blood glucose test: A test that involves collecting a drop of blood from a fingertip prick.
- Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM): A test that involves applying a sensor to your upper arm or abdomen to monitor your glucose levels.
